I built Truly Free QR after watching small business owners get burned by QR generators that deactivate codes after 14 days unless you pay over $100 a year. I had already printed menus, flyers, and packaging. The code stopped working. The provider wanted an annual subscription to turn it back on.
That felt like blackmail. So I built the alternative: dynamic QR codes that never expire, free forever. No subscriptions. No tricks.
Klickify Agency is my digital product studio focused on building ethical, ad-supported utility tools that solve real problems without extracting money from the people who can least afford it. Truly Free QR is the first product in that portfolio.
How QR code providers trap small businesses
Many QR code platforms follow the same pattern. They offer a free trial, often around 14 days, for dynamic QR codes. During the trial, users generate codes and put them on printed materials: restaurant table cards, product packaging, real estate signs, event flyers.
When the trial ends without a paid plan, the codes can stop working. The redirect stops resolving, and any code already printed on physical materials becomes a dead link. Reprinting often costs more than a subscription, so the real choice is to pay or to reprint.
A printed code is a promise to whoever scans it. Truly Free QR is built on the opposite assumption: a dynamic code you create stays active, and you can change where it points whenever you need to. The service is designed to be funded by advertising rather than subscriptions, so there is no plan to lapse.
How the platform stays free and fast
Truly Free QR is split into two services. The website is a Next.js application that handles the QR generator interface, the analytics dashboard, and all content pages. The redirect engine runs separately on our own VPS with Redis caching, so a scan resolves with a quick cache lookup on the server.
The separation is intentional. If the website is restarted or updated, existing dynamic QR codes keep resolving, because the redirect engine is a separate service.
Safe-Scan — the anti-phishing layer — checks every destination when you create or edit a code. It only accepts https links, rejects URL shorteners and high-risk address patterns, and looks the address up on Google Safe Browsing. Each code also gets a Safe-Scan page that shows where it leads and what the checks found. QR phishing (quishing) keeps growing: the Anti-Phishing Working Group counted 716,306 malicious QR codes in the third quarter of 2025 alone. Safe-Scan is our contribution to that problem, and it has limits: the check runs at creation and edit time, not on every scan.

No account required.
Generate, customize, and download QR codes instantly. We do not ask for your email address, your credit card, or your personal information. The tool works from the moment you land on the page. No registration wall, no onboarding sequence.
Safe-Scan link checks.
Every destination is checked against Google Safe Browsing when you create or edit a code, and each code has a Safe-Scan page that shows where it leads.
Transparent monetization.
The platform is designed to be ad-supported. Ads are limited to the generator page, the dashboard and content pages. The redirect that runs when someone scans a code never shows an ad. The goal is a service funded by advertising, not subscriptions.
